Patricia Hawkes

 Patricia Hawkes (Patty) passed away on Friday, April 6, 2018 at the age of 95. She was born in a small lumber town, Ash Grove, Oregon, on 12/2/1922 to Ervin and Emily (Quackenbush) Klingler. They moved to California shortly after Patty was born.

 She married her Arcata High School sweetheart, Keith Hawkes in 1945, after he returned from serving in the Army Air Corps. They purchased and moved into their house in Arcata, where Patty lived for 72 years. They had two daughters, Donna and Kathleen. Patty loved being a homemaker, she loved working in her beautiful garden, and she loved spending time with her life-long friends Katy Fusi, Martha Canclini and Sarah Franklin. Patty loved life and fought a valiant battle to the end. Giving up was just not part of her personality, and she always was very proud of being "hard-headed."

 Patty was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Keith, who died in 2000. She leaves her daughters Donna Acosta and Kathleen Brown (Clint), her grandchildren Nicole Acosta (Bryan Douglass), Phillip Acosta, Beau Brown (Bonnie) and Jody Reeser (Rich). She also leaves her "grands," Taylor, Bode, Trent, Levi and Serena.

Patty's wishes were that her friends remember her smile and sunny personality, and requested that no services be held. She dearly loved her cat of 17 years, Sashi, who had passed away a few months prior, and she would like any contributions that are made in her name to be to the Sequoia Humane Society.

 The family would like to send special thanks for all those who helped so much in the end, Mad River Home Health Services (Michelle in particular), all the doctors and nurses at Mad River Hospital, the staff of Timber Ridge in McKinleyville, and all the nurses and staff of Hospice of Humboldt.
