George Nixon Obituary

George Leland Nixon III., husband, father, brother, uncle and great-uncle, started on his journey home on March 8, 2018, he was born December 19, 1961. He was a Hoopa Tribal Member and Dance Leader for the White Deerskin Dance and Jump Dance. George lived in the Hoopa Valley all of his life, leaving only once to attend college at Shasta College in Redding, CA. He started working for the Hoopa Tribe after college for the Blue Card Crew brushing. He also worked for the Hoopa Tribal Environmental Protection Agency, Recreation Department, he was a fire fighterand worked in the woods for a short time. He went to training and received his Grade 1 Water Quality Certificate while working for the Hoopa Valley Public Utilities District.

George is survived by his wife Janice Nixon, who was the love of his life and blessed him with five beautiful children, his only daughter, Laynee, (his "princess") and four sons, George IV, Nicholas, Leland and Gage, who he was very proud of and bragged on his children to whoever would listen. He is also survived by his sisters; Carole and Sheri Nixon, his niece, Nicole and Joe McGinnis, his nephews; Richard Jr. and Erica Nixon, William and Cyndi Nixon, Shane and Wade Nixon, Eric Nixon and Monique Webb, Talbert and Patisha Alverado, and niece Cheyenne Hostler. His great-niece, Tea" McGinnis and Mason Redwing, JoeJoe, Dakota, Nimbue and Nixon McGinnis, Richard, III., and Adrianna Nixon, Wesley and Riley Nixon and Gigi Alverado, Aunts Ethel Garcia and Lori Davis of Redding. George was also very close to his in-laws; Fathers in-law; Roland Davis and Ronnie Robbins, Sisters in-law; Alice Ann and Darrell Mabry, Kimberly Davis, Michelle and Troy Good, Lillian and William McCovey and Brandice and Bob Kane Jr., Aunts in-law; Juliene and Floriene McCovey. George was proceeded in death by his father, George Nixon Jr., his mother, Mildred Nixon and his brother, Richard Nixon Sr., who he shared his birthday with two years apart and it was almost two years to the day that he passed. And his mother-in-law, Phyllis Robbins only a couple of months ago.

There will be a wake at George's home on Pine Creek Road at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 15, 2018. Services will be on Friday, March 16th at the Neighborhood Facilities Building at 11:30 a.m. He will be laid to rest at the Nixon Cemetary. Pallbearers will be George's sons, and nephews. Honorary pallbearers will not be listed as there would be too many as he had numerous friends and relatives and you all had a special place in his heart.
