Marguerite Mae Womack

Marguerite Mae Womack of Arcata, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 8th, at the age of 87. She was born in Joliet, Illinois to Leland and Grace Bowers. When she was 17 years old her family moved to Moonstone Beach and she graduated from Arcata High School in 1947. 

She leaves behind her devoted husband Charles with whom she recently celebrated 68 years of marriage. She will be lovingly remembered by her three children and seven grandchildren: son Leland (Margaret) of Escondido, CA and grandchildren, Christopher, Wesley, and Elizabeth; son Barry (Claudia) of Eugene, OR and grandchildren, Kristina, Jeffery, and Scott; and daughter Cheryl (John) of Eureka and grandson Benjamin. 

She is also survived by her dear sister Marcella, and numerous nieces and nephews. After high school, Marguerite worked at the Bank of America and met her future husband, Charles, at a Youth-for-Christ meeting. They were married in 1949, and she became a homemaker to raise their three children. She enjoyed cooking, loved the many family camping trips and visits to southern California to see her siblings. 

After her children were grown, she worked at the Arcata Speedwash for over 20 years. She was a talented ceramic painter, and accomplished seamstress. Marguerite and Charlie enjoyed many years of square dancing with the Westerners and HoeDowners. Her fun-loving, kind and gentle spirit will be greatly missed by her family. A private graveside service was held at Greenwood Cemetery in Arcata.
