Jose C. Freitas

Jose passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on March 1st, 2019.  Our beloved husband, father and grandfather Jose C. Freitas was born on January 2, 1950 in Almagreira, Vila do Porto, Santa Maria, Azores.  He immigrated to California in 1974 with his wife to be closer to his parents and siblings.  He is preceded in death by his parents Joaquim S. Freitas and Virgina A. Cabral, brother Manuel J. Freitas, and five of his (infant) siblings.  Jose is survived by his wife Maria R. Freitas; sons Marco ( & Maria) Freitas, Carlos (& Amberlee) Freitas and daughter Maria (& Mario) Pimentel; and his eleven loving grandchildren.  He is also survived by his brother Antonio (& Zenalia) Freitas; and his sisters Maria Rodrigues, Ines Silveira, and Olimpia (& Fred) Avelar, and sister in laws; Maria L. Mateus, Margarida Melo, & Celina Freitas; and many godchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Jose was a caring and loving family man who was full of faith and love for all.  He especially enjoyed all the little things in life as a retired dairyman.  He cherished time with his family and grandchildren.  He enjoyed fishing, gardening, story telling, and was always ready to share a good laugh or words of inspiration.  Jose lived his life with high integrity, honesty which are values that he has passed on through his children.  He will be greatly missed by all.

A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, March 9th at 8:00 A.M at Saint Mary’s Church in Arcata.  The family wants to thank all of the medical staff who provided care, and family and friends for their support and kindness.
