Tony passed away on February 14, 2018 at the age of 82. He was born on March 16, 1935 in Ponta de Faja-Grande, Flores, Azores Portugal. He immigrated to Arcata California on September 26, 1953 at the age of 18. Tony worked for local Dairy's and at The Emmerson Lumber Mill. He was a self-employed Dairyman for 30+ years. He loved raising emails and the outdoor life. He was an avid deer hunter and bought his tags every year. Tony was a great storyteller of things past and had old Portuguese sayings for everything. His favorite phrase was "hey easy" and the word CHEEP; he made everyone laugh.
Tony is survived by his son Anthony DeFraga, brothers; Jose of Flores Azores and Angelo Fraga and wife Sally of Rantoul, Illinois, also by his good friend Margaret Belli, mother of his son; and his lifelong friends Leo Angelini and Virgina Angelini, Fred and Velma Carlson, his Aunt Rosa and numerous sister in laws, cousins, nieces and nephews. Tony was preceded in death by his parents Jose and Isabel Fraga; brothers, Luis Furtado and Daniel Fraga; sisters Maria Raphael and Josephine Mendonca.
Tony was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and numerous Portuguese organizations. Visitation will be held at Paul's Chapel on Thursday February 22, 2018 from 4 to 7 pm, followed by a Rosary Prayer. Mass will be held on Friday February, 23, 2018 at 10:00 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Arcata, burial to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. A reception will be held at the Portuguese Hall, Arcata.
