Thomas Christopher Cobb, 39, died Thursday, February 15, in a single-vehicle accident in Humboldt County, CA.
Known by everyone as “Chris”, he was the youngest child and only son of Craig and Patricia Cobb, formerly of Eagle River, and little brother to Katie Greene (Bryant) of Anchorage, and Danielle Travers (Timmy) of Kenai. He attended Alpenglow Elementary in Eagle River and graduated from the Alaska Military Youth Academy in 2002. Chris subsequently moved to the mountains of Humboldt County and earned his license to grow medical marijuana. He soon became a sought-after master grower and managed medical marijuana farms in California and Washington State.
At the end of this year’s harvest season, he was planning to leave the mountain and start a sawmill business in Oregon with a friend and business partner. Chris’s bright blue eyes lit up every room he entered, and his sardonic wit kept everyone in the room entertained for hours.
He was an avid fan of the San Francisco 49ers and the Atlanta Braves. He enjoyed learning about obscure baseball statistics, Seinfeld trivia, and watching “It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia”. He was a wonderful cook and grew most of his own food. He was an accomplished outdoorsman. He never hesitated to buy a meal for a homeless person, and if that person had a pet, he would feed it as well.
In addition to his immediate family, Chris is survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews, who will never forget his kindness, humor, and compassion. He also leaves behind his four-legged companion of twelve years Penny Lane, who was with him at the time of his accident, but miraculously survived. Fortunately, she has been taken in by one of Chris’s friends and will be able to spend the rest of her life on the mountain where she grew up.
The immediate family will hold a private remembrance of Chris in Arcata, CA in the coming days, after which his ashes will be scattered in some of his favorite places on the mountain that he loved.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those wishing to honor his memory make a donation in his name to a local animal rescue shelter.
